Bucknell Women's Tennis Defeats St. Bonaventure, Falls to IPFW

OLEAN, N.Y. -- The Bucknell women's tennis team split a pair of dual matches on Saturday at St. Bonaventure, with Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's) leading the way in a 6-1 victory over the host Bonnies before the Bison succumbed to IPFW 7-0 later in the day.
Lucido won at both No. 1 singles and doubles in the win over St. Bonaventure. She captured a tight three-setter, 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 over Manuela Marin-Salcedo in singles and teamed with Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) for an 8-6 doubles win over Maria Barousse and Amanda Pallikunnel.
The Bison swept the three doubles matches all by 8-6 counts, with Daria Tuzhikova (Minsk, Belarus/Gymnasium No. 7) and Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) winning at No. 2 and Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) prevailing at No. 3.
Iepuras routed Barousse 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Bucknell also won quickly on Courts 5 and 6. Casey beat Andrea Pavlovic 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, and Dwojewski surrendered only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Riley Archer at No. 6.
At fourth singles, Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) rallied from a set down to beat Kathryn Kvas 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. St. Bonaventure's only point came from Pallikunnel, who was a three-set winner over Vidrascu at No. 3 singles.
In the IPFW match, the Mastodons won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 3, Rottkamp and Raquel Vescovi split the first two sets, then Vescovi won a super tiebreaker 10-8 to claim the match. Lucido and Casey played well at No. 1 doubles, but lost 8-7.
Now 2-5 on the season, the Bison women will play at Cornell on Sunday at 10 a.m.
