Lucido's Milestone Wins Lead Bucknell Women's Tennis Past Mount St. Mary's, 6-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) overtook the program's second spot in career singles and combined victories in a strong showing for Bucknell women's tennis that saw the Bison defeat Mount St. Mary's 6-1 at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon. Lucido led the effort in which Bucknell claimed two of three doubles matches and all but one singles match.
Lucido teamed with Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) for her first victory of the day. The duo defeated Emily Bolchoz and Renee Deane, 8-5. Lucido took down Bolchoz a second time at first singles, where the Bison won 6-2, 7-5.
With the singles win, Lucido is now 80-35 in her career. That ranks her only behind program record holder Tanya Sichko, who posted a record of 86-40 between 2001-05. The two victories give her a combined record of 156-69. That is also second in program history, placing her only behind Veronica Brown's 161-90.
Lucido was obviously not the only Bison to put her name in the win column against Mount St. Mary's. Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Sutherland) were also winners at third doubles, 8-6 over Emma Haley and Carly Landini. Vidrascu served out the match to give the duo their fourth win in five matches.
In singles action, Dwojewski also make quick work of Renee Deane at the No. 6 position. Dwojewski did not allow a game to her opponent, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) snapped her personal two-match skid with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Samantha Pinchoff at No. 2 singles. Casey and Vidrascu also ended the day with straight-set victories. With her 6-2, 7-5 decision over Haley, Vidrascu won back-to-back singles matches for the first time since October.
Bucknell will be back on the courts on Saturday when they take on George Mason in Fairfax, Va. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
