Bucknell Women's Tennis Dominates Marist, 6-1

ORLANDO, Fla. - Bucknell women's tennis snapped a three-match losing streak, taking down Marist 6-1 in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday morning. The Bison (4-6) won eight of nine matches against the Red Foxes to put them back on the winning track during their Spring Break trip.
The Orange and Blue got off to a solid start by sweeping doubles play. Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) went toe-to-toe with Marist's Kelsey Raynor and Joana Sun at the No. 1 position. After a tiebreaker, however, the Bison came out on top 8-7.
Daria Tuzhikova (Minsk, Belarus/Gymnasium No. 7) and Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) moved up the Bucknell record books with an 8-3 win at second doubles. Tuzhikova (29-21) is now 20th, while Iepuras (28-28) is tied for 21st. Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Sutherland) were also 8-4 winners at No. 3.
Singles were overwhelmingly in Bucknell's favor as well. Four of the Bison's five wins came in straight sets, with only Vidrascu having to go the distance at No. 5 singles. The freshman bounced back from a first-set 6-2 loss to Jeannie Lukin to win the second 6-3. A tiebreaker in the final frame also went her way, giving Vidrascu her first singles victory since a win at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Feb. 25.
Bucknell's next match will be with North Dakota. The teams will meet at Azalea Lane in Orlando on Thursday for a 5 p.m. match.
