NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Bucknell women's track and field sent just a dozen athletes to the Yale Giegengack Invitational in New Haven, Conn., on Saturday, but the Bison made their presence known. Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) and Emily Liggett (Grosse Point, Mich./Lawrenceville School (N.J.)) each ran some of the fastest times in school history at the meet.
Competing at 3,000 meters for the first time in more than a year, Fulmer finished second at Yale with a time of 9 minutes, 53.65 seconds. That comes in as the fourth-fastest time in Bucknell program history. The junior is also the sixth Bison ever and only the third since 2001 to run under 10 minutes in event.
Liggett continued her success at the middle distances with a seventh-place finish in the 1,000 meters. The junior crossed the line in 2:57.05, ranking ninth all-time in program annals. The performance gives Liggett her second consecutive breakthrough on a top-10 list. After never appearing in the record books prior to the season, Liggett is tied for ninth all-time as well with a 5:01.14 mile at last week's Penn State National Invitational.
Also for two consecutive weeks, Bucknell has added a name to the top-10 list for the 1,000 meters. Caroline Tolli (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) now ranks 10th in the event after her 2:57.06 outing at Penn State.
Tolli was one of three Bison to compete in Yale's 800 meters. The sophomore was 15th overall (2:20.48), just behind teammate Amanda Steinke (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), who was 14th (2:19.95).
At the shorter distances, Jaime Rasmussen (East Berlin, Conn./Berlin) qualified for the 60-meter finals. She improved her 8.20-second prelim time to 8.18 in the final for 14th place.
Bucknell will complete its indoor regular season next weekend by hosting the Bucknell Winter Classic on Feb. 12. The Patriot League Championships at Navy will follow Feb. 18-20.
