WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) claimed a pair of victories but the sophomore couldn't keep Bucknell men's tennis from falling 6-1 to Georgetown at the West Branch Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. The Bison are now 0-4 on the season.
Katten got his day started with a smooth victory at No. 3 doubles with Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye). The Bison duo defeated Georgetown's Tim Walsh and Alex Friedlich 8-1. The Hoyas took the doubles point, however, winning 8-3 and 8-1 in the other two matches.
Giving Bucknell its only point on the day, Katten took down Bryan Miller in straight sets at No. 4 singles. Katten topped his opponent 6-4, 6-3.
The Bison continued to get highlights from its sophomore class as Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) pushed his singles match opposite Andrew Bruhn to three sets. Zimmer won the opening frame 6-3 and battled in the second. After dropping the second set 7-6, Zimmer fell in the third, 6-4.
Kyle Rosen (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) also put up a fight at No. 5 singles. The freshman came up short against Brian Ward, however, dropping a 7-5, 7-6 decision.
Bucknell will return to the courts in early March. The Bison will take on Niagara and St. Bonaventure in New York state March 4 and 6, respectively.
