PRINCETON, N.J. – Dave Brown (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) returned to the front of the Bison's pack, and Bucknell men's cross country placed eighth in a field of 14 teams at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday morning. Brown was 31st overall on the eight-kilometer course, completing the race in 25:29.
Bucknell nearly had three runners in the top 50 as D.J. Krystek (Pitcairn, Pa./Gateway Senior) was 51st overall and John Dugan (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) was 56th. Krystek crossed the finish line in 25:46, just five seconds ahead of Dugan's 25:51.
Completing the top five for the Bison were Dustin Horning (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) and Andrew Kirna (Westfield, N.J./Westfield). Horning was 60th (25:55), followed by Krina in 78th (26:20).
“We were without a couple of our veterans due to sickness, and a couple of our freshmen struggled,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “We got nice races from Krystek, Dugan and Horning to give us a nice pack. Brown was up front through four miles and faded. We need to put it all together at leagues.”
As a team, the Bison placed eighth with 253 points. Cornell took the top spot in the team standings with 50 points, while Ben Sathre of St. Thomas (Minn.) won the individual title in 24:29.
The Patriot League Championships are the next task for the Bison. The meet is slated for Oct. 29 at Lehigh.
