CHARLESTON, S.C. -- For the second time in the last three days, the Bucknell women's golf team holds the clubhouse lead in a tournament. Paced by a 2-over-par 73 from freshman Kasha Scott (Cherry Hills Village, Colo./Cherry Creek), the Bison opened up play Monday at the Wendy's Invitational with a round of 304, good for a two-shot advantage over UAB and Appalachian State with 18 holes yet to play.
Playing the challenging Coosaw Creek Country Club, junior Minjoo Lee (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) followed Scott with a 3-over 74, while senior Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) shot 78 and freshman Bridget Wilcox (Bernardsville, N.J./Taft School) posted a 79. Freshman Lauren Bernard (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) had the fifth score with an 80.
Charleston Southern, the runaway winner of the 2010 Big South Championship, is the host of the event, and fellow Big South members Radford and Presbyterian are also in the field. Just behind Bucknell's 304 are UAB and Appalachian State at 306, with Radford fourth at 311 and Charleston Southern fifth at 313. Presbyterian is 11th at 333.
Scott is just one shot behind individual co-leaders Hannah Coles of Radford and Rumbidzai Masamvu of Appalachian State. Lee is tied for fourth with Radford's Jade Okamoto.
Over the weekend, Bucknell was the first-round leader at the Rutgers Invitational, and the Bison ended up finishing second after Fairleigh Dickinson came from behind to win with a stellar final round. Bucknell opened the fall season with a victory at its own annaual tournament.
