LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Maconomet Regional) won the 3000 meters at the Penn State National Invitational, and Sasha Hornock (Dover, Pa./Dover), Casey Krause (Cebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and Lindsay Appel (Wexford, Pa./North Alleghany) earned a trio of victories at the Bison Open & Multi as Bucknell women's track and field completed competition at the two meets on Saturday. Alexandra Romanelli (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was third in the triple jump (35-7 1/2) and fifth in the long jump (17-0). Both were career highs for the freshman.
Appel led her teammates on the track, winning the 400 meters. Her time of 59.40 seconds made her the only runner to finish under one minute in the event.
Moniz ran of the best races of her career, winning the 3000 at a competitive Penn State National Invitational. Her time of 9:55.35 shot her into fourth place on Bucknell's all-time record list and qualified her for the ECAC Championships.
Other Bison to finish among the top 10 at Penn State included Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) in the pole vault. A day after winning the event at the Bison Open & Multi, Frey finished ninth with a height of 11-9 3/4.
