ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Looking for its eighth consecutive Patriot League title, and 11th of the last 12, The Bucknell women's indoor track and field team was led by strong performances in the field events on Saturday.
Bucknell scoring was led by the stellar throwing of junior Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), who won the women's weight throw with a toss of 56-8 ½. This was ½ shy of tying Musante's personal best throw. Junior Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands) and sophomore Casey Krause (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) placed second and fifth in the long jump, respectively, with leaps of 18-0 and 17-7 ¼ to score for the Bison.
In the high jump, Bucknell picked up two more scorers with junior Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) and sophomore Emily Moles (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) placing second and fourth overall. Mantush cleared 5-5 and Moles 5-3, respectively for the Bison.
The 4x800 meter relay brought more scoring for Bucknell, as it took second and recorded the school's seventh-fastest time ever: 9:04.40. The team consisting of freshman Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X), senior Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional), junior Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem), and senior Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield), along with the eventual winners Lehigh, finished in a time faster than the previous Patriot League Championship record.
The women's team will pick up where it left off Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Welsey A. Brown Fieldhouse.
