Bucknell Women's Basketball Earns Breakout 93-50 Win vs. Lycoming

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Every Bison scored and several Sojka Pavilion records fell, but Trisha Krewson (Sandusky, Ohio/Perkins) stood out as Bucknell women's basketball defeated Lycoming, 93-50, on Wednesday night. Krewson became the first Bison to score 30 points in a game since 2004 and tied the program record for most three pointers made with eight as the Orange and Blue stopped a five-game skid.
Krewson joined two of the top players in program history with her career milestones. The sophomore tied Desire Almind as the last Bison to score 30 points. Her eight successful three-point shots also tied Bucknell's all-time leading scorer Molly Creamer for the most in a single game in program history and set the mark for the most at Sojka Pavilion.
Lycoming (2-8) put the first points on the board with a pair of free throws, but that hardly put the Warriors in control. Bucknell (3-8) answered with a 14-0 run and kept Lycoming from sinking another shot for more than five minutes. With the help of eight points from Krewson, six of which came off shots from behind the arc, Bucknell was off to a 14-2 lead.
Several Bison got in on the attack with nine players earning points in the opening frame. Lindsay Horbatuck (Avon, Conn./Avon) earned three points with a tough layup and a foul, and Joyce Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) cashed in on several layups. Along with some solid shots from Cosima Higham (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day), the Bison gave the Warriors a good taste of their inside game. At the half, Bucknell led Lycoming 16-6 in points in the paint. That margin continued to grow as the Bison finished the game leading 40-14 in the category.
After establishing a comfortable 27-point lead at the half, Bucknell continued to extend their lead into the second half. Higham and Novacek led off the frame with back-to-back layups before Krewson again found the hot hand for back-to-back three pointers. Her jumper at 14:02 gave her a career-best 19 points and improved Bucknell's lead to 59-28, but Krewson kept on the attack.
Lycoming struggled to slow Krewson who hit shots from nearly everywhere on the court. Having already claimed the Sojka Pavilion record for three pointers earlier in the half, the guard continued her career night until she claimed a piece of the program mark with 6:42 to play. The basket put Bucknell up 79-43.
Bucknell crammed a lot into the final five minutes of action. Krewson hit the 30-point mark, Higham reached double digits in scoring, Taylor Phillips (South Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg South) hit her second of two three pointers, and Alison Nahra (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) and Alyssa Dunn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills School) each scored to complete the Bison's scoring column. As the final buzzer sounded, Bucknell had earned its largest margin of victory at Sojka Pavilion with a 43-point win.
Among the other Sojka Pavilion records broken was the Bucknell high scoring mark. The Bison's 93 points was the most scored at home since the building opened in 2003. Krewson's stellar night from long distance also helped the team to a Sojka Pavilion record with 12 made three pointers, while the squad's 24 attempts tied the facility record.
Novacek and Higham joined Krewson in double-digit scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Novacek reached the total on 6-for-8 shooting, while Higham closed out the game on 5-for-7 shooting from the field. Higham also had the team high in rebounds with nine. Rachel Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio/Loveland) led the team with six assists, while Christina Chukwuedo (Monessen, Pa./Monessen) five. As a team, the Bison had 27 assists, one shy of tying the program record.
Leading the way for the Warriors was Alicia Engler with 12 points and Rebecca Spencer with four rebounds.
Bucknell will attempt to take this home success with it when it travels to Buffalo on Sunday, Jan. 3. Tipoff in Buffalo, N.Y., is slated for 2 p.m.
