BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The nasty weather hampering the Northeast this weekend created some unusual circumstances at the Kelly Gutshall Lehigh Invitational, but the Bucknell men's golf team persevered and is just three shots off the lead after one round. With the women's side of the draw backed up on the front nine, the nine men's teams ended up playing the back nine twice after a lengthy delay, and the Bison posted a 303 team score. That is good for a four-way tie for third place, three shots behind co-leaders Drexel and Villanova.
Ryan Schneiter (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) posted Bucknell's best score of the day, a 3-over-par 75. Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) and Will Bachman (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) all shot 76, and Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) posted a 79.
Schneiter is tied for seventh place individually, while the three 76s are in 14th. Kyle Davis of Drexel, Tim Rosenhouse of Lehigh and Kris Boyes of St. Bonaventure are tied for the lead at even par.
Lehigh, St. Bonaventure and Colgate also shot 303 on Saturday, with the next-best score being a 310 from Siena.
The final round is scheduled for Sunday morning.
