LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's track & field team placed first out of six teams at the Bucknell Heptagonal, on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Bison scored 205, followed by Shippensburg (159), Lehigh (66), Towson (52.5), East Stroudsburg (46) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (28.5). This was the first scored meet of the year for the Orange and Blue. Bison freshman Christina Muccio (Andover, Mass./Andover) won the 55-meter dash and the 200.
"Our team depth allowed us to pull the way at the end of the meet," Bison head coach Kevin Donner said. "Shippensburg has a fantastic team and gave us a really good meet. We need to develop more energy and fix up some areas. If we do that, then we'll have a Patriot League-contending team."
Muccio ran the 55 in 7.31 seconds, tied for fifth fastest in Bison history. She crossed the finish line in the 200 in 26.08 seconds. Classmate Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) won the mile in five minutes, 1.65 seconds, the tenth fastest time in school history. Fulmer came from behind to win, defeating Mary Dell of Shippensburg by .03. She finished fourth in the 3,000 (10:23.13), which was won by Neely Spence of Shippensburg (9:51.65). Bucknell's Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) finished second (10:22.40).
Bison senior Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) won the 400 (58.81), while Lindsay Appel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mass./Salem), Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and Jamie Leacock (Howell, N.J./Howell) won the 4 x 400 (3:59.00).
In field events, Bison sophomore Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) won the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 11.75 inches, while junior Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) won the weight throw (52-1).
The Bison return to action in two weeks, hosting the Bison Open and Multi on Jan. 30-31, while also participating in the Penn State National Invitational at University Park, Pa.
