Bucknell Women's Track and Field Closes Out Day Two At Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's track and field team finished day two of the Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday afternoon, posting one NCAA regional standard, two ECAC standards and two first-place finishes.
Freshman Laura Rycek (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) led the way, taking first in the javelin with an NCAA Regional qualifying distance of 143-3. Her distance was also a career best and the second-best throw in Bucknell history. She was followed by senior Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) in second with an ECAC provisional distance of 142-4.
Senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) placed second in the discus throw with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 147-11. She went on to take sixth in the shot put with a distance of 42-3/4, the 10th-best distance in Bucknell history. In the long jump, freshman Casey Krause (Cebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) posted the ninth-best distance in Bucknell history, 18-1 1/2, for third place. Krause went on to place ninth in the triple jump (35-4).
In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./York) ran the 10th-fastest time in Bucknell history (25.63) for sixth place. She went on to finish fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.59.
Bucknell's squad of senior Andrea Wright (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt), junior Megan Hathaway (North Tonowanda, N.Y ./Niagara Wheatfield), senior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and sophomore Caroline Strunk (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) won the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:30.44.
In the heptathlon, sophomore Amy Mantush (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) finished second with a total of 4,417 points, while junior Rebecca Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) took 11th with a point total of 3,236. In the last three events on Saturday morning, Mantush went 16-11 1/4 (603) in the heptathlon long jump, 82-1 (382) in the javelin throw and 2:42.47 (545) in the 800-meter run, while Eppleman posted a distance of 14-5 3/4 (406) in the long jump, 86-2 (406) in the javelin and ran a time of 2:53.51 (428) in the 800-meter run.
Other top finishers for the Bison on day two included Wright leading Bucknell in the 800-meter run; she placed ninth with a time of 2:16.94. In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Lindsay Appel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) paced the Bison, taking seventh with a time of 58.99. Freshman Jamie Leacock (Howell, N.J./Howell) led Bucknell with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.75) and went on to take eighth in the 100-meter hurdles, stopping the clock at 15.77. Freshman Emily Moles (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) posted a mark of 4-11 in the high jump for a top Bison finish in seventh.
Bucknell's team of Evans, sophomore Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), sophomore Kristin Steele (Shiremanstown, Pa./Trinity) and freshman Kristin Bretscher (Farmingville, N.Y./Cenetreach) ran a time of 49.98 in the 4x100 relay for an eighth-place finish, while Bucknell's 4x400 relay team of junior Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional), Appel, senior Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and Leacock placed fourth in 3:59.48.
Up next, the Bison will look to host the Bucknell Team Challenge next Saturday, April 19, at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for the final home meet of the 2008 season.
