Bison Women's Track and Field Takes Second At Bucknell Team Challenge

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's track and field team notched a second-place finish at the Bucknell Team Challenge on Saturday. The Bison compiled a total of 151 points behind a first-place Penn State squad (244 points) in the only regular season scored meet for the Orange and Blue this spring. Saturday's meet was also Senior Day, marking Bucknell's last home meet this year.
In the javelin throw, senior Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) won the event with a NCAA East Regional standard of 150-10. She was followed by freshman Laura Rycek (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) in second with an ECAC standard of 135-2. Rycek qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the javelin a week ago at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
Freshman Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) won the pole vault. She posted an ECAC-qualifying height of 11-11 3/4 to tie her career best, which is also the third-best mark in Bucknell history. Also scoring in the event was senior Ashley Curry (Lewistown,Pa./Lewistown). She finished in fifth with a height of 10-11 3/4.
Senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) threw the seventh-best distance in Bucknell history for the shot put. She placed fifth with a mark of 42-7 1/2. Mockbee went on to post an ECAC-qualifying distance of 159-9 in the hammer throw for third, while sophomore Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Pa./Shelton) also scored, placing sixth (157-4).
Sophomore Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) placed fourth in the long jump with the eighth-best distance in program history (18-4 1/4). Senior Nicole Ayala (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) placed fifth, tying the ninth-best distance in Bucknell history (18-1 1/2). Also scoring in the long jump was freshman Casey Krause (Cebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) in sixth with a distance of 17-9 3/4. Mantush also scored in the 100-meter hurdles, placing sixth with a time of 15.73, and went on to place fourth in the high jump (5-3), tied with junior Rebecca Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley).
Senior Jennifer Grant (Erie, Pa./Erie Villa Maria) won the 3,000-meter run (10:40.74), as five Bison scored in the event. Junior Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) took second (10:51.09), senior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) finished third (10:52.84), junior Kim Hassett (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) stopped the clock at 11:01.44 for fifth, and sophomore Erin Heidecker (Waterford, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) took sixth (11:06.75).
Bucknell's 4x800 relay team, composed of senior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area), senior Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), freshman Leighann Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) and junior Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) won the event with a time of 9:40.79.
Sophomore Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./Central York) picked up team points in the 100-meter dash, placing sixth with a time of 12.56. Junior Megan Hathaway (North Tonowanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) picked up a fourth-place finish for the Bison, running a time of 58.09, while sophomore Lindsay Appel (Wexfors, Pa./North Allegheny) also scored, taking sixth (58.54).
In the 800-meter run, senior Offeibea Hanson-Hall led the Bison, placing fourth with a time of 2:15.19. Also scoring was Dalzell; she placed sixth in 2:15.76. In the 1,500-meter run, Cranmer-Hart and freshman Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) picked up team points, finishing in third (4:38.23) and fourth (4:42.87), respectively.
Four Bison scored in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Gabrielle Skovira (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) led the Orange and Blue taking second with a time of 12:05.40, while freshman Eileen Foley (Herndon, Va./Chantilly) followed in third with a time of 12:27.60. Freshman Colleen Gavigan (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abingdon Heights) clocked in at 12:33.30 for fifth and junior Nichole Smith (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) placed sixth (12:42.00).
In the triple jump, senior Denise Manero (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) led the way for Bucknell, placing third with a distance of 36-9 1/2. Also scoring in the event was Ayala in sixth (36-1 1/2).
Bucknell's 4x100 relay squad of sophomore Evans, sophomore Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), sophomore Kristin Steele (Shiremanstown, Pa./Trinity) and freshman Kristin Bretscher (Farmingville, N.Y./Cenetreach) took fourth with a time of 48.77.
Up next, the Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams will have athletes competing at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, April 24-26, and will also send athletes to Saint Francis (Pa.)'s Red Flash Open on April 26.
