
Bucknell Men's Track and Field Ends Day Two At Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track and field team finished day two of the Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday afternoon, posting four IC4A standards and picking up one first-place finish.
In the high jump, freshman Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) led Bucknell with a third-place finish. He posted an IC4A-qualifying height of 6-8 1/4 to tie the third-best height in Bucknell history. Fitzgerald went on to place fifth in the pole vault (14-9).
Sophomore Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabeth) and junior Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) each ran IC4A times in the 110-meter hurdles. Yehl placed second with a time of 14.66, a career best and the fourth-fastest time in Bucknell history. MacLeod followed in third with a time of 14.82.
Bucknell's squad of sophomore Griffin Burns (Hanover, Pa./Mercersburg Academy), sophomore Tom Espedal (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), sophomore Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) and junior Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) won the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:50.33.
In the decathlon, sophomore Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) placed second with a point total of 6,439, an IC4A standard. Sophomore Thomas Vogler (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) took fourth, compiling 5,818 total points. In the final five events on Saturday, White ran a time of 15.44 (797) in the 110-meter hurdles, went 98-6 (465) in the discus, 14-5 1/4 (731) in the pole vault, 136-1 (464) in the javelin and 5:04.02 (537) in the 1,500-meter run. Vogler stopped the clock at 17.99 (525) in the 110-meter hurdles, went 95-10 in the discus, 12-5 1/2 in the pole vault, 144-7 (501) in the javelin and finished the 1,500-meter run in 4:55.72 (585).
Other top finishers for Bucknell on day two included sophomore Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) in the 800-meter run; he placed ninth, stopping the clock at 1:55.50. In the 400-meter dash, Gyan took 13th in 49.98 and in the 100-meter dash, sophomore Jason Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) posted a top finish for Bucknell with a time of 11.20, good for 17th. MacLeod had the top finish for Bucknell in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.11, good for eighth, while Yehl went on to place 19th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.85.
In the discus, sophomore Jonathan Lockhart (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) finished in 11th with a throw of 139-7. Freshman Daniel Kubinski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Preparatory School) led Bucknell in the triple jump with a distance of 45-1 3/4. Sophomore Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 49-2 1/4.
Bucknell's team of senior Matthew Johnson (Newburgh, N.Y./Marlboro Central), sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central), Yehl and freshman Guy Castranova (Trenton, N.J./Notre Dame) picked up a seventh-place finish in the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.50, while Bucknell's 4x400 relay team of freshman John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central), senior Brian Mooney (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), Ramer and sophomore Gregory Baxter (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) placed eighth with a time of 3:24.24.
Up next, the Bison will look to host the Bucknell Team Challenge next Saturday, April 19, at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for the final home meet of the 2008 season.
