Bucknell Women's Track and Field Wins Two Events On Day One Of Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's track and field team finished day one of the Bison Outdoor Classic, as individuals from more than 50 teams gathered at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for the distance and multi carnival, Friday night. Bucknell took two first-place finishes in individual events on the first day of the Outdoor Classic.
On day one, freshman Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led the way, taking first in the pole vault with an ECAC provisional height of 11-11 3/4. Her height was a career best and is tied for the third-best mark in Bucknell history. Picking up a first-place finish in the non-invitational section of the 5,000-meter run was freshman Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional); she ran a time of 17:46.54.
In the invitational division of the 1,500-meter run, senior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) took third with a career-best time of 4:34.56. Her time was the fifth-fastest time in Bucknell history.
Sophomore Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) and junior Rebecca Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) are competing for Bucknell in the heptathlon. They opened the two-day meet with the first four events on Friday night. Mantush finished the heptahlon 100-meter hurdles in 15.31 (801) for third, while Eppleman went 18.03 (485) for 15th. In the second event, Mantush posted the top finish in the high jump with a mark of 5-5 3/4 (818), while Eppleman came in sixth with a height of 4-9 1/2 (577). In the shot put, Mantush threw a distance of 31-7 1/4 (505) for third and Eppleman posted a mark of 28-9 1/4 for eighth (449). In the final event of the day, Mantush ran a time of 26.40 (763) in the 200-meter dash to compile 2,887 points total after day one; she is in second place going into day two. Eppleman stopped the clock at 29.96 (485) to compile 1,996 points and stand in 14th after day one.
Other top finishers for Bucknell in running events included junior Jessica Hibbert (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) in the 1,500-meter run (non-invitational); she took fifth with a time of 4:49.83. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Gabrielle Skovira (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) took 16th with a time of 12:00.30.
In field events on day one, sophomore Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Pa./Shelton) led the Bison in the hammer throw with a seventh-place finish. She posted a distance of 148-5, while senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) followed in eighth with a distance of 148-4.
The Bison Outdoor Classic will conclude on Saturday, with Bucknell welcome 13 visiting teams: Detroit Mercy, Yale, Cornell, American, Lehigh, Lafayette, Colgate, St. Francis (Pa.), Brockport State, Cortland State, Susquehanna, Muhlenberg and Duquesne. Saturday's events will begin at 9 a.m. with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles. Field events will start with the women's shot put at 10 a.m. and track events are set to begin at 11:15 a.m. with the slower section of the men's 10,000-meter run.
