LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's track & field team competed against 11 other teams at the Gerhard Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 6, in the annual Bison Opener. The Bison women won five different events, achieved four new top-10 marks to the school record books and had two athletes qualify for the ECAC Championships.
Bison sophomore Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) won the pole vault, soaring 12 feet, the fourth best height in school history. That height also qualifies Frey for the ECAC Championships, as did junior Chelsey Musante's weight throw. Musante (Shelton, Conn/Shelton) threw the 20-pound weight 54-0, the fourth best distance in Bucknell history and first among all competitors on Saturday.
Two Bucknell athletes achieved top-10 status in the Bison record books in the 60-meter dash. Freshmen Christina Muccio (Andover, Mass./Andover) and Jaime Rasmussen (East Berlin, Conn./Berlin) recorded times of 7.99 and 8.00 seconds, respectively. Muccio is now tied for third in school history, while Rasmussen is tied for fifth.
Bison freshman Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary's) won the mile (5:18.49), while senior Megan Hathaway won the 800 (2:19.69). Bucknell placed 1-2-3 in the 1,000, as Allison Janda (3:05.85) (Plymouth, Mich./Salem), Laura Cundey (3:08.82) (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) and Emily Selonick (3:13.85) (Crownsville, Md./McDonogh) swept the event.
New fieldhouse records were tied or set in both the 60 hurdles and the 60 dash. Howard's Landria Buckley ran an 8.44 in the hurdles, while Ashley Hines of Morgan State ran the 60 in 7.53 seconds.
The Orange and Blue will next compete on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, hosting the Gulden Relays.
