Bucknell's Deitrich, Peters Pick up Patriot League Women's Lax Weekly Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's lacrosse team wrapped up its 2007 season last week with two blowout wins and a loss to Big Ten power Ohio State, and two Bison were rewarded for outstanding performances with Patriot League player of the week honors. Junior defender Lauren Deitrich (Collegeville, Pa./Hill School) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman attack Chelsea Peters (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) was named PL Rookie of the Week.
Deitrich, the Patriot League leader in caused turnovers, had another big week for the Bison, particularly in their two victories. In Saturday's 21-11 league win over Lafayette, she forced five turnovers, collected a season-high seven ground balls and also had a goal and an assist. In last Wednesday's 23-5 victory over Saint Francis, she had two goals and two assists while logging four takeaways and four ground balls. She also had two ground balls and two caused turnovers in Sunday's 17-4 loss to Ohio State.
Deitrich finished the season with a league-high 43 caused turnovers, a team-high 40 ground balls, as well as 14 goals and 4 assists.
Peters had a team-high 11 goals (on only 14 shots) and 14 points in Bucknell's 2-1 week. She scored six goals, the most by a Bucknell player all year, against Saint Francis, then had a second straight six-point game (4G, 2A) in the PL win over Lafayette. Peters, who had 27 points in the last eight games of the season, also had a goal and an assist vs. Ohio State.
Peters' late-season surge helped her finish with 31 goals and six assists for 37 points on the season. She ranked second on the team and 10th in the Patriot League in goals and fourth on the team and 13th in the league in points.
With freshmen and sophomores accounting for more than 86 percent of the team's offense, the Bison finished the 2007 season with a 7-9 record.
