HAMILTON, N.Y. - Lindsay Pittard scored three goals, all coming in succession in a two-minute span, to spark Colgate's 12-goal second half in a 13-9 victory over Bucknell in Patriot League women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Tyler's Field. Chelsea Peters (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) scored three goals and Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) had three assists for the Bison, who fell to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League.
Bucknell had a great first half, getting two goals from Peters and one each from Lauren Deitrich (Collegeville, Pa./Hill School) and Erin Weinstein (Standfordville, N.Y./Deerfield Academy) along with some outstanding defense en route to a 4-1 halftime lead.
The Raiders (3-8, 1-1) got going offensively just after the halftime break, scoring just 34 seconds in on a goal from Katie Holland. Ashley Didio's goal 5:56 into the half tied it at 5-5, but the Bison went back in front 6-5 on Peters' third goal of the day, assisted by Paige Kasschau (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side).
Colgate took control with a five-goal surge in a span of 5:04. Megan Lawler tied it with 19:20 to play, then Pittard scored three straight to make it 9-6 with 16:03 remaining. Molly Carroll's second tally of the day gave the Raiders a commanding 10-6 lead, then after Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) scored off a Buechel feed, Colgate scored two straight to go up 12-7.
The Bison tried a late rally, getting goals from Deitrich and Donohue 1:28 apart to pull within 12-9, but they could get no closer. Tara Casey finished the scoring with eight seconds to play.
Colgate outshot Bucknell 41-26 and won 14 of 24 draws. Bucknell goalie Katie Hartsock (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) stopped seven shots in the first half and finished with 11 in the game, while Sara Drexler made nine saves for Colgate.
Donohue tallied two goals and an assist for the Bison, giving her a team-high 29 points on the season. Deitrich added two goals, and Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) had a pair of assists.
Bucknell is back in action on Tuesday night, visiting Drexel in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
