LEWISBURG, Pa. - After piling up 10 points in two Bucknell victories last week, women's lacrosse standout Bonnie Buechel has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week.
Buechel, a sophomore midfielder, registered a career-high five goals along with an assist in Saturday's thrilling 13-12 Patriot League victory at Lehigh. She scored four goals in the first half alone to help Bucknell rally from an early three-goal deficit. Later, with the score tied at 12-12, Buechel assisted on Alison Heffernan's game-winning goal with only 1:15 left in the game.
On Thursday, Buechel had two goals and two assists in a 12-6 non-conference victory over Manhattan. She also logged seven ground balls and four draw controls in the two games.
Following the 10-point week, Buechel now has 19 goals and four assists for 23 points on the season. She leads the team and ranks sixth in the Patriot League in goals, and she is second on the team and ninth in the league in total points.
Bucknell has now won four straight games to improve to 4-3 on the season, outscoring their opponents 54-32 during the streak. The Bison have a non-league game at home on Wednesday night against UC Davis before traveling to Colgate on Saturday afternoon.
