LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's lacrosse team faces Robert Morris in its 2007 home opener on Saturday at Graham Field. The 3 p.m. contest will mark the first official competition in front of the sparkling new grandstand facility that services both Graham Field and Varsity Soccer Field.
Third-year head coach Jess Spadafora and the Bison have battled very tough competition in the early going, falling to UMBC and No. 14 Penn State, both on the road. Sophomore Bonnie Buechel scored hat tricks in both games and leads the team with six goals. Another sophomore, Sarah Collins, is off to a good start with two goals and an assist after leading the team in scoring as a first-year player in 2006.
Robert Morris also comes in with an 0-2 record, with losses coming to Duquesne and Ohio State. This will be the very first meeting between the Bison and Colonials in women's lacrosse.
Saturday's game will be the first of eight home contests for the Bison. The next game at Graham Field is slated for Thursday, March 22 against Manhattan at 4 p.m.
In addition to the covered grandstand seating area, the new West Fields complex includes public restrooms, concession areas, team rooms, a training room, a viewing suite and a press box area, all situated between Graham Field and the Varsity Soccer Field.
Admission to all Bucknell women's lacrosse games is free.
