
Bucknell Indoor Track And Field Teams Compete At Akron Open

AKRON, Ohio - The Bucknell men's and women's indoor track and field team participated in the high caliber Akron Open, in the Athletics Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Akron. Competing with the Bison were Akron, Ohio State, Kent State, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Youngstown State, Saint Francis (Pa.), Western Carolina, Appalachian State, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Detroit-Mercy, IP-Fort Wayne, Marshall, Oakland, Duquesne, Valparaiso and Winthrop. The Bison had a total of nine athletes hit ECAC and IC4A qualifying marks.
On the women's side, junior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa/Slippery Rock) and senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) qualified for the ECAC Championships after finishing second and third, respectively. Cranmer-Hart cross the line with a time of 4:57.89, while Sawko broke the plane at 4:58.11. Senior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wysalusing Valley) placed second in the 5,000 with a time of 17:30.78, which made her an ECAC qualifier.
Senior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) posted a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 12-5 ½ (3.80m), which was a ECAC qualifying mark. Senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) notched an NCAA provisional and ECAC mark in the 20-lb weight throw launching a distance of 64-5 ¾ (19.65m), which was good for second. She also competed in the discus exhibition, which she finished third with a length of 143-8 (43.80m).
Senior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) placed second in the 800 with a time of 2:17.73. Senior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.J./Garden City) finished fifth in the 400, with a time of 57.52, which ranks her fourth in school history.
Sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) finished ninth in the 200-meter with a time of 22.19 seconds, which was a new personal record and made him an IC4A qualifier. His time also moves him into third place in Bucknell history. Junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the one-mile run finishing third with a time of 4:11.23.
Junior Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 800 after finishing with a time of 1:54.43, which was good for eighth place. Senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) placed sixth in the 35-lb weight throw with a toss of 61 feet, 4 ¼ inches (18.70m) which made him IC4A qualifier.
Sophomore Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) recorded a personal best and placed 11th in the 400 with a time of 49.56 and ranks him fifth in school history. Freshman Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Gov. Dummer Acad.) posted a third-place finish in the 3,000 with a time of 8:50.95. Junior Michael Gibney (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) place third in the 5,000 crossing the line with a time of 15:26.14.
Sophomore Nick DeGregorio (Ridgewood, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) finished second and third with throws of 48-10 (14.88m) and 48-9 (14.86m), respectively.
The Bucknell indoor track and field squads will compete in the Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup in Uniiversity Park, Pa., on the campus of Penn State on Friday Feb. 9, at 5:30 p.m. They will also host the Bison Winter Classic on Saturday, Feb. 10, in Gerhard Fieldhouse, starting at 10 a.m.
