LEWISBURG, Pa - On Friday, seniors Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) and Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) produced strong performances in their respective events as the Bucknell women's indoor track and field team competed in the first day of the Bison Open and Multi in Gerhard Fieldhouse and the Penn State National Invitational in University Park, Pa.
Grap finished second in the 20-lb weight throw at the Penn State National Invitational as she improved on her NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a distance of 65 feet, 7 ½ inches (20.00m), which is a personal best and new school record.
At the Bison Open and Multi, Reinhardt broke a 25-year-old school record and qualified for the ECAC Championships after posting a second-place finish in the pentathlon with a total of 3504 points. The senior won the shot put with a length of 35-8 ¾ (10.89m). She also finished second in the long jump and the 55-meter hurdles, with a distance of 18-3 (5.56m) and a time of 8.52 seconds.
Also in the pentathlon senior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:25.85. Freshmen Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) posted a second-place mark in the high jump after clearing a height of 5-3 ¾ (1.62m), while placing third in the shot put with a distance of 31-9 ½ (9.69m).
In the 5,000, sophomore Kim Hassett (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and junior Jennifer Grant (Erie, Pa./Erie Villa Maria) placed first and third, respectively. Hassett crossed the line with a time of 18:40.30, while Grant broke the plane with a time of 18:58.05. Senor Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) notched a fourth-place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.17.
The Bucknell women's indoor track and field squad will compete in day two of the Bison Open and Multi and Penn State National Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Bison Open and Multi will start at 10 a.m. with the women's long jump, while the Penn State National Invitational will begin at 9:45 with the men's 4x400 relay.
