LEWISBURG, Pa - After winning nine events on the day, the Bucknell women's indoor track and field team was victorious in its first scored meet of the season at the Bucknell Heptagonal in Gerhard Fieldhouse. The Bison accumulated a total of 256 points. Finishing behind Bucknell were Saint Francis (Pa.) (90), Duquesne (72.50), Towson (63), Wagner (27), Shippensburg (25) and East Stroudsburg (24.50).
Senior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) won her event in the 55-meter hurdles after posting a personal-best time of 8.25 seconds, which made her a qualifier for the ECAC Championships. The senior also placed second in the 200 with a time of 26.27. Senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) launched another NCAA provisional and ECAC-qualifying mark in the 20-lb weight throw with a distance of 62 feet, 7 ¾ inches (19.09m). Grap also finished third in the shot put with a length of 43-1 (13.13m). Senior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) won her second pole vault competition of the season after clearing an ECAC-qualifying height of 11-9 3/4 (3.60m). Senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) finished second in the 1,000 with a time of 2:56.69, which qualified her for the ECAC Championships.
Freshman Kalle James-Wintjen (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) won the 200 with a time of 26.21. In the 500, senior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton), and Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) finished first and second with times of 1:18.27 and 1:18.66, respectively. Seniors Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing) and Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) posted back-to-back finishes in the one-mile run. Stevens took first with a time of 5:08.31, while Nastase placed second, breaking the plane with a time of 5:10.80.
Junior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) posted a time of 2:19.14 in the 800, winning her the event. Senior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) jumped a distance of 37-9 ¼ in the triple jump, which won her the event. The team of juniors Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) and Hanson-Hall, sophomore Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and freshman Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) notched a first-place showing in the 4x800 with a time of 9:37.11.
In addition to the nine first-place victories, a number of Bison athletes finished in the top three. Freshmen Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) took second in the high jump clearing a height of 5-5 (1.65m). Senior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) place second in the long jump after jumping a distance of 18-2 ½ (5.55m) in the long jump, while senior Angie Hall (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) and junior Ashley Curry (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area) finished second and third in the pole vault with heights of 11-5 ¾ (3.50m) and 10-0 (3.05m), respectively.
In the 5,000, junior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pannridge) crossed the line second with a time of 18:03.85, while sophomore Nicole Falcaro (Dingsman Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) took third with a time of 18:08.12.
The Bucknell women's indoor track and field squad will host the two-day Bison Open and Multi meet in the Gerhard Fieldhouse on Friday, Jan. 26.
