LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second straight day the Bucknell men's golf team showed off its depth on its home course, as all 10 Bison players shot 77 or better and Bucknell's two entered teams finished second and third, respectively.
The all-underclass team, made of up of junior Keita Aoki (Toyko, Japan/St. Mary's International School) and four freshmen, took second place with a 54-hole team score of 874 (289-293-292), 16 shots behind champion Rider.
Aoki tied for fourth individually after shooting a 1-over-par 71 on Saturday. He shot 213 for the tournament (72-70-71). The "Blue" team's low round of the day was an even-par 70 by Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye), who debuted Friday with a pair of 76s and wound up in a tie for 13th place. Also, Ryan Schneiter (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) carded a final-round 75, after a 71-75 opening, and he snuck into the top 10 with a tie for 10th. Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) (73-73-77) tied for 18th place, while Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) (73-75-76) tied for 22nd.
Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy), Bucknell's No. 1 player, led the all-senior contingent with his second straight round in the 60s. The previous day Waddell opened with a 76 but rebounded with a career-best-tying 67 in the second round. Saturday he shot a 1-under 69, and his 54-hole total of 212 was good for his second straight T-2nd finish, one shot behind medalist Tyler Brewington of Rider. Waddell was also runner-up last week at the Colgate Invitational, where he helped lead the Bison to the team title.
Ryan Hom (New York, N.Y./Poly Prep) (75-74-73) tied for 13th place, while fellow seniors Chas Wagner (Oakmont, Pa./Hampton) (74-74-77), Kyle Moran (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick Academy) (74-77-74) and Patrick Yingling (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) (75-80-73) also competed and contributed to a solid 289 team total in the final round. The senior squad, finished with an 879 composite, five shots behind the "Blue" team. The Bison veterans began the day in fourth place, but passed Saint Francis (Pa.) to claim the No. 3 spot.
The Red Flash finished fourth with a team total of 884, while Lehigh (888), Robert Morris (896), La Salle (899), Colgate (900), Duquesne (904) and Lafayette (904) rounded out the top 10 in a 15-team field.
Bucknell also had three players competing as individuals. Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) was the best of that trio, shooting 75-74-73 to finish in a tie for 13th place. Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) (81-75-75) and Brian Poe (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) (80-78-79) also competed.
Bucknell returns to action next Sunday and Monday at the St. Bonaventure Invitational.
