HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School) both carded even-par rounds of 72 on Sunday afternoon to help the Bucknell men's golf team capture the team championship at the Colgate Invitational. The Bison won the event for the second time in three years.
Bucknell trailed Binghamton by two shots entering Sunday's final round, but the Bison got four scores of 77 or better and finished with a team total of 295, the low round of the weekend. Binghamton shot 300 on Sunday and finished in second place, three strokes behind the Bison.
After shooting a pair of 73s on Saturday, Waddell and Aoki bettered their first-round scores by one stroke in the final round. The duo finished in second place, two shots behind medalist Dan McCarthy of LeMoyne. Waddell was awarded the runner-up medal on a match of cards.
Also for Bucknell, freshman Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) finished up a terrific debut weekend by shooting 74, while fellow newcomer Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) shot 77. Bartow tied for seventh place, giving him his first career top-10 finish.
Patrick Yingling (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) posted the team's fifth score, an 85.
The tournament title was Bucknell's sixth since the start of the 2003-04 season, a victory collection that is highlighted by the 2006 Patriot League championship.
Next Friday and Saturday the Bison host their annual Bucknell Invitational at the Bucknell Golf Club.
