LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Senior Ben Pellicani (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) shot a 1-over-par 72 Sunday to take a one-stroke lead in the individual standings, and the Bucknell men's golf team sits in second place after the first of two rounds of Monmouth's Hawk Invitational.
The Bison are resting most of their regular starters this week, but they still shot a solid 308 and trail Saint Francis (Pa.) by three shots on the team leader board.
Backing up Pellicani's 72 was Chas Wasgner (Oakmont, Pa./Hampton), who shot 74 and sits alone in fourth place. Patrick Yingling (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) is tied for 14th after shooting 79.
Freshman Brian Poe (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and sophomore Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) made their first starts of the spring and shot 82 and 84, respectively.
Pellicani, whose top collegiate finish is a second at last spring's Patriot League Championship, has a one-shot lead over Steve Velardi of Quinnipiac and Matt Gowdy of Saint Francis. Wagner is the only other player closer than five shots to the lead.
Bucknell has a four-shot margin on third-place Quinnipiac, which shot 312 on Sunday. Monmouth is fourth at 319, followed by Wagner at 322, Sacred Heart at 324, Lafayette at 328, Fairleigh Dickinson at 331, Mount St. Mary's at 339 and St. Peter's at 340.
The tournament concludes on Monday morning at Eagle Ridge GC.
