ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Led by a 1-under-par 70 from Ben Pellicani (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), four of Bucknell's five players improved their scores from the first to second rounds, the Bison shot 298 on Saturday to finish 10th at the Navy Invitational.
Bucknell's strong second round comes just one week prior to the Patriot League Championship, which will be right back at the very same U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course.
Pellicani's season-low 70 helped him finish in fifth place, his second top-10 this spring. He took second at the Monmouth Invitational Apr. 2-3.
Also contributing to Bucknell's 298 were Tom Lane (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) with a 74, Kyle Moran (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School) with a 75 and Patrick Yingling (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) with a 79. The team's top player, Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy), shot a rare 81.
Behind medalist Erich Schoen (3-under 139), Navy won the team title with a 36-hole total of 582. Rider was second at 585, followed by Loyola (586), George Washington (590) and Penn (593).
Bucknell, which opened with a 302 on Friday, did defeat the other visiting Patriot League teams in the field, as Lehigh (615), Lafayette (628) and Colgate (630) occupied the last three spots in the 15-team field.
The Bison will compete at the Cape May Invitational on Monday and Tuesday before heading back to Annapolis for the Patriot League Championship next weekend.
