BUCKNELL WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD WIN FIFTH CONSECUTIVE PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Bucknell's women's track and field team won its fifth consecutive Patriot League Championship title on Sunday, February 19, in Annapolis, Md., with 190 total points, almost 70 points ahead of the second-place finisher, Army (122), with host Navy finishing in third with 117. The Bison received all four of the major awards with head coach Kevin Donner being named the league's Coach of the Year, junior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) was named the Track Athlete of the Meet, junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) received the Field Athlete of the Meet honors and freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) was named the Rookie of the Meet.
Sawko received the gold medal in the 1000-meter run with a personal best time of 2 minutes, 53.9 seconds, setting a new school record in the event.
Grap broke the Patriot League Championship record in the weight throw (63 feet, 6 inches) on Saturday and placed second in Sunday's shot put, with a throw of 41-8.
Dempsey's success came on Saturday as she won the high jump (5-5) and placed second in the long jump (17-8 3/4).

Also on the final day of competition, Bricker earned a gold medal in the 800 with a time of 2:14.72, while junior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) placed second in the 500 (1:18.87).
The 4x400 relay team, comprised of junior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), freshman Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagra Wheatfield), Sawko and Allen, clocked in a time of 3:57.06 and earned a first-place finish.
Also earning points for the Orange and Blue was Trentacoste, who placed third in the 400 (58.74) and fourth in the 55-hurdles, with a time of 8.29.
Junior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) clocked in a third-place time of 10:06.96 in the 3000, and earned a sixth-place ranking in the Bucknell record books, while also taking third in the mile (5:03.31).
In the 800, sophomore Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) took fourth (2:18.31), while senior Kerryann Branker (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) took fifth in the event (2:18.54). Junior Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Acad.) took fourth in the 200 (26.05) and sixth in the 55 (7.46).
The distance medley relay team of Branker, Forer, Hanson-Hall and Bricker clocked a time of 12:16.75 and finished in third place.
"It was an outstanding weekend our ladies were very business like," said Donner. "Winning these championships never get old."
So far this year, Bucknell has earned the Patriot League title in both women's cross country and in indoor track and field. The squad will return to action in two weeks at the ECAC Championships, held in Boston, Mass., starting on March 4 and continuing until March 5.
