BOSTON, Mass. - Bucknell's women's track and field team completed the first day of competition at the prestigious ECAC Championships, held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass., on Saturday, March 4. Junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler) marked a leap in the pole vault of 12 feet, 7 inches, good enough for a third-place finish.
In the preliminary section of the 4x800-meter relay, the team of junior Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area), sophomore Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochell, N.Y./New Rochelle), senior Kerryann Branker (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) and junior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) finished in 9 minutes, 2.37 seconds and in third place and advanced to Sunday's finals. The team's time ranks fifth in the Bison record books.
Junior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) finished 12th in the prelims of the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.92, which qualified her for the semifinals and secured her spot as Bucknell's second-fastest runner in the event. Unfortunately, Trentacoste was disqualified from the semifinals in the event.
In the 5000, senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) finished in 19th overall with a time of 17:38.35.
Freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) recorded a mark of 5-5 in the high jump (16th place), while the 4x400 team of Trentacoste, junior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), freshman Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagra Wheatfield) and junior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun. School of Princeton) finished 21st (3:54.84).
Buczko's leap served as her sixth-highest mark of the season.
The meet will conclude on Sunday, March 5, starting with the weight throw at noon and ending with the awards ceremony, scheduled for 3:40 p.m.
