Distance Medley Relay Quartet Sets School Record at Second Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Bucknell women's distance medley relay quartet picked the most appropriate venue for their record breaking accomplishment on Friday. The foursome decided to smash the old school record at the Penn Relays, as part of Bucknell's impressive day two at the historic competition.

Results

The Bison grouped Katrina Torelli, who has been on fire this outdoor season, Jenna Wright, a dependable sprinter, Grace Vives, who recently broke the school record in the mile, and Shaelan McNally, Bucknell's cross country star, into a finely-tuned machine that ran 11:30.52 for 11th place and more importantly the program record that has lasted since 2022.

"This was such an exciting day," said the senior Vives. "I knew we could be in contention for the record so I just did everything I could to help the team out. We worked with the coaches to figure out splits and we all ended up stringing together some good times today!"

Torelli handled the opening 1200 meters before yielding to Wright, who ran a strong 400 meters, before Vives continued the pace in the 800-meter section. McNally anchored the last 1600 meters and delivered the top 12 finish.

"Our goal going into the race was to break the school record, so I wanted to get the team out in a good position and do everything I could to set us up well." said Torelli.

Freshman Julia Sobilo was not fazed by the pomp and pageantry. The rookie placed tenth in the discus throw, missing finals qualification by one spot and several feet. Her best throw of 45.28m (148-7) showed up in her third chance.

Madison Fowler completed her weekend with a 12th place finish in the shot put college edition. She threw 13.60m (44-7.50) which arrived in her third attempt.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Amanda Agambire, Cami Burkett, Piper Portacio, and Alexandra Lea sped their way to 14th place on a time of 47.31. Lea anchored another relay team in the 4x400-meter edition. Raygan Lust, Abigail Michaelson, and Alison Cooke partnered with Bucknell's speedster to finish 23rd, logging 3:47.62.

Megan Baggetta sandwiched a mark of 38-6 between two fouls in the triple jump. The distance finished Baggetta at 19th.

Elizabeth Bryant cleared 11-3.75 in the pole vault, tying for 23rd.

Madelyn Hudak returned to the javelin throw for the first time this year. Hudak battled lingering injuries, but her final placement of 23rd, reinforces her potential. She finished with a mark of 36.31m (119-1) and will only grow stronger as she returns to fighting fit.

The Penn Relays conclude tomorrow with US National Champion Evelyn Bliss and fellow javelineer Brylee Tereska headlining.
