Bucknell Track & Field Sqauds Complete Competition at the ECAC/IC4A Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - The action at the ECAC/IC4A Championships ended on Sunday, March 5, for the Orange and Blue track and field teams. The women competed in the ECAC's at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, while the men's meet, the IC4A's, took place at the Boston University Track and Field Pavilion, both in Boston, Mass. Two of Bucknell's relay teams on the women's side finished in times good enough to earn the number two spots in the school record books in each event.
The 4x800 team of juniors Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area), and sophomores Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) finished in 8 minutes, 58.26 seconds, and in second place overall. The distance medley team of sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), and juniors Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) and Sawko crossed the line in 11:36.05 and placed seventh overall.
Junior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa/Punxsutawney Area) recorded a mark of 37 feet, 9 1/2 inches in the triple jump for a 12th place finish, while classmate Marjorie Grap (Van-Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) placed third in the weight throw with a heave of 61-9 1/2.
"Our women are really starting to establish themselves as one of the better teams in the East," said head coach Kevin Donner. "I was very proud of our team's performances, especially in the relays."
On the men's side, juniors Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon), Matt Bonelli (Califon, N.J./Pingry School) and Adam Syty (East Amherst,, N.Y./Clarence), along with senior Kevin Brown (Cranford, N.J./Cranford), finished the distance medley relay in 9:52.72, in sixth place, earned a number seven ranking in the Bison all-time record books.
Junior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) recorded a personal best time of 14:35.61 in the 5000 (17th overall).
"Our men had a fantastic weekend," remarked Donner, "one of the top IC4A meets since I've been here."
Sunday served as the last day of the two-day Championships, with both meets beginning on Saturday, March 4. The women finished the weekend in 15th place, while the men finished in 34th. Winning the ECAC's was Georgetown University, while Penn State took the IC4A title.
