Bucknell Men's Golf Ties for Second at Don Mershon Classic

TELFORD, Pa. -- Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) both posted top-10 finishes to the lead the Bucknell men's golf team to a second-place tie at the Don Mershon Classic, which wrapped up Monday afternoon. Each of the 11 teams in the field had to finish up the first round, which was not completed on Sunday due to darkness after a frost delay, then play the second and final round.
Led by an even-par 72 from Waddell, Bucknell shot 301 after a first-round 313. The Bison tied with host Lehigh for second place, two shots behind team champion Saint Francis (Pa.).
Monmouth, the first-round leader, finished fourth, five shots off the lead. Siena (627), Hofstra (634), Fairleigh Dickinson (648), Lafayette (653), Wagner (657), St. Peter's (663) and Lehigh's B team (670) rounded out the field.
Desai shot 74-78 for the Bison and finished alone in seventh place. Two other teammates finished in the top 20. Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School) tied for 14th after shooting 81-75, and Chas Wagner (Oakmont, Pa./Hampton) posted 81-76 and tied for 17th. Also playing for Bucknell was Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield), who carded 88-79.
Siena's Bryan Bigley shot a pair of 72s and won the individual title at even par. Waddell was five back in second place, his fifth top-four finish in five starts this fall.
The Bison are back in action this weekend at the Hofstra Invitational at Bethpage State Park.
