ITHACA, N.Y. - Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) shot a 2-over-par 74 on Sunday to finish in fourth place individually, and the Bucknell men's golf team finished up with a 301 team score to place fifth at the Cornell Invitational at Robert Trent Jones GC.
Bucknell shot an even 900 for the 54-hole tournament and finished 14 strokes off the winning pace set by Rider. St. Bonaventure (888), Cornell (892) and Ottawa (897) also finished just ahead of the Bison, while Hofstra was four back in sixth place. Bucknell easily topped the other Patriot League teams in the field, as Colgate (937), Lehigh (946) and Lafayette (965) placed 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively, in a 15-team field.
Waddell's 74-71-74 showing was good for sole possession of fourth place. Rider's Tyler Brewington recovered from an opening-round 76 and was 5-under for the last 36 holes to win medalist honors by just one stroke over Cornell's Breton Perry, who finished at even par. Andy Whalen of St. Bonaventure was 1-over, while Waddell was 3-over.
Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) was Bucknell's runner-up. He shot 75-76-74 to finish in a tie for 14th place. Two strokes behind Desai in a tie for 19th was Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School), who had rounds of 75-77-75. Chas Wagner (Oakmont, Pa./Hampton) shot 80-76-78, while Kyle Moran (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School) shot 77-75-84.
Bucknell is back in action next weekend at the Army Mulekicker Classic at West Point GC.
