LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell juniors Rachel Prowler (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn) and Emily Burman (Kensington, Md./Stone Ridge) earned First Team All-Patriot League honors for women's lacrosse, the league office announced Friday. The duo was joined on the all-league team by senior co-captain Andrea Paraud (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and sophomore Katie Edge (McLean, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes), both second-team choices.
Prowler is a repeat pick on the first team, having also been selected in 2004. One of the Patriot League's top defenders, Prowler was the premier player on a solid Bison defense that proved to be one of the team's strengths this spring. She started all 15 games, marking the third straight season she has played in every game, and ranked among the team leaders in caused turnovers (15) and ground balls (25). She also picked up the first two points of her career with a goal and an assist.
Burman is an All-Patriot League selection for the first time in her career. She established a new career high with a team-best 23 goals in 2005, surpassing the 17 she logged as a sophomore. The athletic middie also had three assists for 26 points, and she ranked in the top 20 in the Patriot League in both goals and assists. One of the team's "go-to" offensive players, Burman had four-goal games in victories over Harvard and Le Moyne, and she scored at least one goal in 12 of 15 games.
Paraud was also a first-time selection as a second-team all-conference attack. She was Bucknell's leading scorer in 2005 with 30 points on 17 goals and a career-high 13 assists. She ranked fourth in the Patriot League in assists and tied for 13th in points. Paraud, who finished her career with 102 points, had at least a goal or an assists in all but one game this season, including a four-goal, five-point afternoon in a win over Harvard. She also ranked among the team leaders in draw controls (15), forced turnover (12) and ground balls (18).
Like Prowler, Edge earned all-conference accolades for the second straight season. In 2004 she was the only freshman to earn a spot on the first team, and this season she hit the 20-goal plateau for the second year in a row and landed on the second team. She finished with 20 goals and three assists, ranking second on the team in goals and third in points. Edge had seven multi-goal games in 2005, including hat tricks against Drexel, Holy Cross and Le Moyne.
Colgate's Katie McVeigh and Heidi Ross were named the league's offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively, while coach Katrina Silva was named coach of the year after leading the Raiders to the regular-season title.
Two Holy Cross players also received major awards. Megan Orr was the goalkeeper of the year, while Amy Archambault was the rookie of the year.
Bucknell finished the 2005 campaign with a 4-12 overall record, 2-4 in the Patriot League.
