Bucknell Men's Tennis Falls to Quinnipiac 4-3 in Season Opener

HAMDEN, Conn. - In their first competiton of the spring season, the Bison men's tennis team fell to Quinnipiac 4-3 Saturday in Hamden, Conn. The Bison were strong in doubles competition taking all three matches but Quinnipiac got the best of the Bison in singles competition winning four matches to Bucknell's two.
In the number one doubles position, senior Nick Denefrio and junior Asher Salam bested Quinnipiac's Andrew Chan and Stefano Salvatore, 8-5. Sophomore Matt Pikus and freshman Ira Reibeisen added a win in the number two doubles match upending Jonathan Russo and Greg Kreyman, 8-4. Seniors Gerald DiChiara and Joe Menezes were the victors in the third doubles slot beating Scott Salway and Fabian Villacis, 8-6.
In singles competition, the Bison got wins from Reibeisen at the second position and DiChiara at the four spot. Reibeisen defeated Salvatore with little trouble, 6-2, 6-2, while DiChiara won a close match over Kreyman, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Next up for the Bison men is a mid-week match-up against the Penn State Nittany Lions in State College, Pa. The match is slated for 6:30 p.m. start-time on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
