Bucknell Women's Golf Fares Well in Strong Field at Nittany Lion Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Fighting stiff breezes and a very strong field, the Bucknell women's golf team performed well at Penn State's Nittany Lion Invitational, finishing 12th among 16 entries over the weekend. Bucknell compiled rounds of 330 and 331 and finished ahead of William & Mary, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Monmouth.
Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain School) shot 78-81 to lead the Bison contingent. Schlang, who tied for 34th place, made six birdies on the weekend, tied for the most in the 85-player field.
Kathryn Batchelor (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) also had a strong tournament, compiling rounds of 83 and 81 to finished T-53rd. Also for Bucknell, Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) shot 82-86, freshman Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) rebounded from an opening-round 89 to shoot 83 on Sunday, and freshman Jasmine Winters (Irvine, Calif./University) shot 87-88.
Competing as individuals, Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) shot 84-86 and Laura Ashpole (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) 88-83.
UC Irvine shot 298 on Sunday and 600 for the tournament to come from behind and clip host Penn State by a single stroke. Princeton was third at 607, followed by Maryland (609), Rollins (610), Indiana (617), Western Michigan (617), Yale (624), Penn State B (636), James Madison (657), Marshall (657), Bucknell (661), William & Mary (663), Saint Francis (678), Penn State C (683) and Monmouth (684).
Maggie Lester of Penn State won individual honors with an even-par 144 (74-70). Selanee Henderson of UC Irvine finished second, two shots back.
The Bison conclude their fall season on Oct. 29 and 30 at the Pat Bradley Invitational at the famed Doral Resort & Spa.
