Bucknell's DiChiara Picks Up Tournament Victory at Northeast Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Gerald DiChiara won the final match of the eighth flight bracket to win the second tournament title for Bucknell men's tennis at the Northeast Intercollegiate Championships. Several other Bison record high tournament finishes on Sunday.
DiChiara won two matches on the day, first over Colgate's Chris Innes, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (4) in the bracket semifinals. DiChiara then defeated Sheldon Hodges of Army, 7-6 (5), 6-1, in the final match of the tournament's eighth flight.
DiChiara's tournament championship is the second for the Bison this weekend along with the doubles championship won by Ira Reibeisen and John Lashnits on Saturday.
"The men gave a phenomenal performance," said Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt. "Collectively, they played the best I've seen them play in three years."
Lashnits just missed winning a second tournament title losing to Dave Collins of Army, 6-4, 6-1, in the final match of the seventh flight.
Bucknell's Joe Menezes picked up a fifth place finish in the eighth flight defeating Nate Carvalho of URI, 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-1. Ben Young also placed fifth in the ninth flight after defeating teammate Brian Cohen, 7-5, 6-2.
Two Bison recorded ninth-place finishes in the respective brackets. Nick Denefrio finished ninth in sixth flight of the tournament while Asher Salam placed ninth in the fifth flight.
Bison men's tennis will be in action again in two weeks as they host the Bucknell Invitational. Competition begins on Saturday, Oct. 9, and will run all day on Saturday and Sunday.
