LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Katie Edge led a high-powered Bucknell offense with five goals as the Bison women's lacrosse team defeated Wagner College 18-7 Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Senior Laura Nuss scored four times and sophomore Emily Burman chipped in three goals as the Bison improved their record to 2-0.
Wagner jumped ahead 1-0 at 24:33 of the first half before Bucknell ripped off seven straight goals to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Senior Meredith Wright and Edge each scored two free-position goals during the streak. Junior Andrea Paraud's free-position score at 10:13 of the first half marked the seventh straight goal for the Bison.
Wagner's Heather George scored one of her four goals on the day at 7:45 of the first before Bucknell went on another scoring tear, tallying 11 unanswered goals over the next 19 minutes. A goal from senior Amy Hasler, four from Nuss, and three each from Burman and Edge accounted for all 11 goals over the span. Wagner scored five late goals but could not recover from the 18-2 deficit.
Edge set a career-high with six points, and is tied with Nuss for the team lead in goals with eight. Sophomore Lizzie McDaniel tallied two saves against the struggling Wagner offense. Freshman Laura Kremer picked up five groundballs to lead the Bison.
Bucknell outshot Wagner 32-15.
The Bucknell women next play host to Virginia Tech this Thursday, March 11 at 4 p.m.
