RESTON, Va. - Bucknell junior Celine Herbin continued her assault on the school record book over the weekend, shooting 76-73 in cold, windy conditions to win the Georgetown Invitational at Reston (Va.) National Country Club. The Bison finished sixth as a team in the 14-team field.
Herbin, an exchange student from Foncouverte, France, tied her own 18-hole school record with a final-round 73, and she broke the 36-hole Bucknell record with a 149 composite. Herbin also shot 73 in the first round of the Yale Invitational in October.
The victory marked the second individual title in program history. Jess Hetrich won the Bucknell Invitational in April 2002. Herbin equaled the feat in Bucknell's first tournament of the spring. The Bison were scheduled to compete in the St. Croix Collegiate Invitational last week, but were unable to get to the Virgin Islands due to a problem with their flight.
Also for Bucknell, Teri Schlang had a solid weekend shooting 83-87. Team captain Jaime Hays shot 87-88, Meredith Kalman carded 87-90 and Stephanie Calhoun shot 89-90.
Bucknell shot 333-338-671 as a team, despite the miserable weather conditions.
Radford, like Bucknell a member of the Big South Conference, won the event, followed by Boston College, Georgetown, St. John's and Penn.
Bucknell returns to action next weekend at the William & Mary Invitational.
