What lies ahead ...
While coming to Bucknell and rowing for Bucknell has brought an enormous number of firsts in my life, senior year is really marked with a lot of lasts. I will never again as a member of Bucknell crew step out into a boat on a cool, crisp morning when the leaves are changing color overhead. I will never again curse out daylight savings time for forcing us to have morning practice because daylight runs short in late October and November. I will never again row under the hot Miami Beach sun, secretly peering out of the corner of my eye for manatees between pieces. And soon I will take one last long bus ride down to Georgia for what always is a unique spring break trip. These are and will always be fond memories of Bucknell crew; despite the pain and lack of sleep they caused me at the time. However, I am right now reflecting on a lot of what has happened, and what is important right now is the three months that still lie ahead.
With spring break right around the corner, we seniors are on the brink of the homestretch of our Bucknell careers. I can only dream big of a grand conclusion to four of the most memorable years of my life thus far. And I find myself equally inspired by my fellow seniors striving for greatness and by the younger women on the team, who won't know until their senior years how important this time was. In these past few days, I have seen smiles beginning to creep on to faces as the weather warms, the snow melts, and plans are set for the docks to go in. We are all ready to get the jump on spring that we were denied last year because of the long winter. I can only wait and see how this spring, my last spring, will shape up and unfold, but for all of these last moments to come, I can only say that we are headed towards something more special that we have seen yet.
