TELFORD, Pa. - Top-10 efforts from Alex Dolle and Ben Pellicani propelled the Bucknell men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at Lehigh's Don Mershon Classic, which wrapped up Monday at Indian Valley Country Club.
After first-round play was suspended due to darkness on Sunday, all 15 teams in the field finished up their final few holes before embarking on Monday's scheduled final round. The Bison completed the first round in 314, then improved to 310 in the final round, as cool, breezy conditions elevated scores.
Siena won the event with a 36-hole total of 610, followed by Saint Francis (Pa.) and Rider at 617, Delaware and Lehigh at 621 and Bucknell at 624. The Bison were eight shots clear of seventh-place Fordham. Two other Patriot League schools, Colgate and Lafayette, placed 10th and 13th, respectively.
Dolle was the top Bucknell finisher. Rounds of 77 and 75 were good for a tie for seventh in a 75-player field that did not feature a round better than 71. Pellicani tied for 10th place with rounds of 78 and 75.
Patrick Yingling's opening-round 76 was the team's best. He followed up with an 81 to slip into a tie for 26th. Newcomer Stuart Lindgren (83-79) placed T-42nd in his collegiate debut, while senior Tyler Braun, playing in his first tournament since his freshman year, shot 86-89.
Ricky Allen of Saint Francis took individual honors with a total of 147 (71-76), one stroke better than La Salle's Phil Arouca (71-77).
The Bison return to action next Friday and Saturday at the Hofstra Invitational at the Bethpage State Park Red Course.
