
Bucknell Women's Lacrosse Suffers Tough 10-9 Overtime Loss at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross sophomore Kerry Daly netted the game-winning goal when she converted on a pass from teammate Justine Reeber 2:22 into overtime to lead the Crusaders to a 10-9 extra session victory against the Bucknell women's lacrosse squad in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon.
In a see-saw game that included five ties and five lead changes, Bucknell jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage when sophomore Amy Hasler scored on a free position shot at 2:13. Holy Cross knotted the game at 1-1 on Katie Britt's first of three scores in the half at 4:32. The Crusaders took their first lead of the game at the 5:00 minute mark when Reeber scored on a pass from Erin Rowse. Junior Suzanne Raffaele netted the next two goals of the game at 11:50 and 16:09 to reclaim the lead for the Bison. Britt answered with back-to-back goals (16:46 and 19:35) to five Holy Cross the 4-3 advantage. Rowse tallied her fourth point of the game on a goal at 20:38 to push the Crusaders lead to 5-3. Orange and Blue senior Melissa Montefusco closed the gap to 5-4 with 3:09 to go in the first, ending the scoring for the frame.
In the second half, the two teams traded goals for the first 15:00 minutes, as Holy Cross clung to a 7-6 lead. Daly, who scored the Crusaders final three goals, pushed the HC lead to 8-6 at 46:38. Bucknell put together a surge, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 9-8 advantage with 2:18 remaining in regulation. Daly's score at 58:29 tied the score, 9-9, to send the game into overtime.
Daly then scored the lone goal of the extra segment, which proved to be the game-winner, at 62:22.
Bison goalkeeper Nicole Kallis stopped 12 shots in net, while Holy Cross netminder Kellaigh Malangone made nine saves.
Bucknell falls to 6-5 overall and drops to 1-3 in the Patriot League. The Bison are back in action on Wednesday, April 17, when they travel to LaSalle for a 4:00 p.m. game against the Explorers. Holy Cross snaps a four-game losing streak to improve to 5-7 on the year and 2-3 in conference action.
