Bucknell Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, Downs American 90-79

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) scored a game-high 32 points, and senior Vicki Quimby (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) recorded a career-high 17 rebounds, as the Bucknell University women's basketball team defeated American University 90-79 in Patriot League action Tuesday evening in Davis Gym.
Bucknell (16-8, 9-2 Patriot League) won its fourth game in a row, while American (11-12, 6-5 Patriot League) saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.
Both teams were hot in the opening half, with American shooting 57.6% from the field and the Bison nailing 56.3% of its shots. The Eagles took the early lead, going ahead 11-4 with 16:17 to go in the frame. The Orange and Blue responded with two quick buckets to cut it to three, 11-8, just 40 seconds later. American maintained a six point advantage (19-13) with just under 13 in the half, before Bucknell put together a 6-0 run to tie the game at the 12 minute mark.
The two teams battled back and forth over the next 4:12 before a layup by senior Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) created a 29-29 deadlock for the sixth tie of the half. From there, Bucknell took off on a 13-5 run to take its largest lead of the half, 42-34, with 3:24 to play in the frame. American made a late push, but still trailed 48-44 at the intermission.
The second half saw Bucknell lead by as many as 15 points behind 65.0% shooting from the floor, but the Eagles stayed in the game by taking advantage of 27 Bison turnovers. Despite shooting just 35.0% from the field, American worked its way back to an eight-point game, but the Orange and Blue scored five of the game's final seven points to come away with the 90-79 victory.
Bucknell hosts Colgate in the final Patriot League home game of the season on Saturday, February 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
