A native of Arlington, Va., Helena Yoest is the daughter of Jack and Charmaine Yoest. She graduated from Yorktown High School and rowed on an unaffiliated rowing team. Majoring in physics, Helena graduated as a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
In her time on the Bucknell women’s rowing team, Helena was a part of four Patriot League Championship boats. As a freshman, Helena earned a silver medal in the Varsity Four. As a sophomore, she finished sixth in the Varsity Eight. As a junior, Helena earned bronze in the Varsity Eight, and as a senior, she earned a silver in the Second Varsity Eight. She also helped the Second Varsity Eight to a silver medal at the Dad Vail Regatta during her senior season. Outside of rowing, Helena was president of the Society of Physics Students and was a teaching assistant for the Physics Department. Helena also completed NSF funded research and presented “Barriers to Motion of Self Propelled Tracers in a 2D Microscopic Laminar Fluid Flow” at the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics conference in 2017.
