Nick Mendez joined the Bucknell athletic training staff in January 2021 after spending nearly six years as assistant athletic director for sports medicine at Ave Maria University in Florida.
Mendez was named the 2019 Sun Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year, and while at Ave Maria he oversaw the school's sports medicine program, including budget, staffing, drug testing and insurance, in addition to student-athlete care. He was also a member of the Sun Conference's COVID-19 task force and the Ave Maria COVID-19 interview team task force before coming to Bucknell.
Mendez is a 2010 graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in athletic training. He went on to earn a master's in kinesiology and sport studies at East Tennessee State University in 2012.
From 2012-14, Mendez served as an athletic trainer at New Mexico Highlands, where he covered all of the school's men's sports, including football, cross country, basketball, baseball and wrestling. After a year working as an AT at Pivot Physical Therapy, he moved on to Ave Maria in July 2015.
