Bucknell University Athletics
Update from Head Rowing Coach Steve Kish -- December 2024
Greetings from the Susquehanna River,
Yes, we are still on the river! The last month has been a roller-coaster regarding the weather, but the women have a great attitude and the appropriate gear, so they are having some productive sessions while also charging to the finish line of their academic semesters.
Another highlight of the fall semester was the Novice Invitational on November 10. Bucknell's four novice eights competed here at home against Ithaca College, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, West Virginia University, and Villanova University. Considering each of those programs only had one novice eight, we were very proud of our 36 novice women who competed that day.
After going home for three weeks (Dec 21 - Jan 10), the full group will fly to Clemson, South Carolina, for our winter training trip. This will be our third training trip to Clemson in the past four years. While it is typically not the warmest option, the logistics work well for us. We stay at a great place with three-bedroom suites with a full kitchen and living room, similar to some of the versions many of our alumni might remember from our training trips to Georgia and Virginia, but perhaps not as "rustic." While the on-the-water training is our priority, the off-the-water experience of spending 24/7 together will lead to memories that last a lifetime.
Thank you to everyone who continues to give back to the program to make this training trip possible. Our annual fundraising goal of $175,000 supports the enhancements to our student-athlete experience by providing support for gear, improvements to the boathouse and boathouse property, equipment, and electronics. Please contact me if you would like more details about how you can support our program.
Warmest thanks and regards from our staff and team.
