Bucknell University Athletics
Update from Head Softball Coach Sarah Caffrey -- December 2024
Dear Bucknell Softball Family, Friends, Alumni, and Fans,
As the fall season and first semester come to a close, we’re excited to reflect on the incredible strides our team has made over the past few months. Our action-packed schedule included matchups against Penn State, Seton Hill, Bloomsburg, and Lock Haven. These games provided great opportunities to test ourselves against strong competition and set the stage for what promises to be an exciting spring season.
Our six first-year players have made an immediate impact, both on and off the field, showcasing their talent and integrating seamlessly into the team dynamic. This fall wasn’t just about competition, it was also about building connections and creating memories. We capped things off with our annual Orange and Blue Series where Team Blue emerged victorious in a thrilling three-game series, highlighted by a creative scavenger hunt that brought out the best of our team’s energy and camaraderie.
Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to announce our 2025 team captains: seniors MaKenzie Hilling and Maddie Roukey, and sophomore Sarah Zimmerman. These three embody leadership, dedication, and a passion for Bucknell Softball that will drive us forward into the spring.
Our spring season kicks off in Texas at Tarleton State, an exciting opening weekend that will set the tone for the months ahead. This team is poised to be a force on the field, and we can’t wait to share this journey with all of you. The spring will take us to TX, VA, DE, and TN. We are thrilled to visit some new places and experience a few different venues that we haven’t before.
As many of you know, one of our core pillars as a team centers around the word gratitude. This year is no different- I would be missing a wonderful opportunity if I didn’t take a minute to touch on how grateful I am for this team and staff. This team is a constant reminder of WHY we do what we do and that we are lucky to show up day in and day out around the people we love and enjoy being around to compete for a championship. As a coach, I am so lucky to get to do what I do and this team is really special. I am so excited for you all to see it come together this spring.
Thank you for your continued support of our program—it means the world to us. If you have not had the opportunity to donate to the program and would like to do so before the end of the calendar year, you can support our team HERE.
Wishing you and your families a joyful holiday season.
Go Bison!
Warm regards,
Sarah Caffrey
