Men’s Golf Off to Strong Start at Colgate; Barrickman, Hartman Under Par through 36

RESULTS
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Freshman Charlie Barrickman turned in a record-setting debut as the Bucknell men's golf team got out to a strong start at Colgate's Alex Lagowitz Memorial on Saturday. The Bison are at 5-over 581 (290-291) through 36 holes and are tied for fifth place in a field of 13 teams.
Seton Hall opened up a seven-shot lead after posting rounds of 278 and 286 for a 36-hole today of 564. Host Colgate is second at 571, with Saint Joseph's (576), Penn (580), Bucknell (581), St. Bonaventure (581), Holy Cross (581), and Villanova (582) all separated by only six shots for the third through eighth spots.
Barrickman opened with a 3-under 69 and followed it up with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon. His debut was the lowest in relation to par by a Bucknell freshman in his first collegiate round. Ben Mattingly started his career with a 68 at the 2007 Bucknell Invitational, but it came on a par-70 course.
Barrickman, who qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship earlier this summer, made nine birdies and nothing worse than bogey on the day. Five of those birdies came in the first round. After starting the day on the second hole, he had it to 4-under after a birdie at the 15th hole, but bumped back after finishing with a bogey at No. 1. He also bogeyed his first hole in round two, but then birdied two of the next three to get back on track.
Colgate's Ronav Benak posted a pair of 3-under 69s and is two shots in front of Barrickman.
Junior Jack Hartman is also in red numbers through 36 holes after shooting 71-72 at Seven Oaks GC. Hartman also made nine birdies on the day and is tied for 14th place.
Senior Taylor Kuehn followed up a 76 with an even-par 72. Freshman Brad McDermott also made a strong debut with rounds of 74-76, and sophomore Jaxon Brown shot 78-80. Sophomore Henry Bolster played well as the sixth man, posting 74-76.
The third and final rounds gets underway on Sunday at 9 a.m.
