LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell Softball (9-32-1, 6-9 Patriot League) wrapped up the home schedule with an 8-2 defeat to Army (29-23, 9-6 Patriot League) on Monday. The Bison scored first but the Black Knights tallied eight unanswered runs to take home the series win.Â
The Orange & Blue grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on good, old-fashioned softball. Senior Haley Speicher, playing in her final Becker Field contest, smacked a triple over the right fielder's head. Barbara Jo Coppola plated her with an RBI grounder.Â
Nina Barrouk received the start and tossed two scoreless innings. She was one out away from extending the streak to three when she issued a four pitch walk to Taylor Brown. Ashton White doubled home Brown. Caitlyn Newburn singled in White and Hannah Laub's double scored Newburn. That closed the book on Barrouk. Payton Hale entered the circle in relief and obtained the final out.Â
Hale tossed four scoreless innings yesterday against the Black Knights but an encore performance did not occur. Army struck for two more runs in the fourth inning. Samantha Sims walked, Tayten Moore laid down a bunt single, and Sienna Tepley singled home Sims. A wild pitch then scored Moore and advanced Tepley.Â
Army added two more runs in the sixth inning. Moore doubled and advanced to third on Shea Malone's throwing error. Tepley singled home her teammate. A fly out and grounder moved Tepley to third. A Newburn RBI single brought her home.
The Black Knights tallied one last run in the seventh inning. Mia Bonsignore singled and Annie Christiana pinch ran for her. The substitute stole second and scored on Moore's RBI single.
Bucknell scored once in its last licks. Molly Lawson doubled and Malone drove her home with a sharp RBI single.
Coach Angela Stackhouse finished the season 6-4-1 at home. She becomes only the third Bison coach to finish with a winning record in his or her inaugural season, joining Dale Franquet in 1991 (13-4-1) and Joey Lye in 2018 (8-3). Interestingly, all three coaches suffered a tie during their seasons.Â
The Bison head to Colgate next weekend for the regular season finale and searching for its fourth consecutive Patriot League tournament bid.Â
